Environmental groups estimate that 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are now used worldwide every year. All of these bags continue to pile up in landfills across the globe. Some countries have even begun to ban or taken action to discourage the use of plastic bags including Australia, Bangladesh, Ireland, Italy, South Africa, Taiwan and India.
